Review for Dark Seas Series by Debbie Herbert

Siren's Secret (Dark Seas Book 1)
***Book Contains Mature Content***

3 out of 5 stars
In the beginning I found Siren’s Secret a bit hard to get into. Some scene just seemed to drag on. However as the book went on it became more interesting. I ended up enjoying the overall book. Debbie even had me feeling sorry for the bad guy. All that he went through that brought him to that point in his life was horrendous.

In Siren’s Secret we follow Shelly, who is a half mermaid and is shunned by most other mermaids. Shelly has a huge heart and loves to help others. She loves her swims until she witnesses something she shouldn’t have. Then the horror begins. Will the torment never end?

During all of the horror she grows closer to one young man, but is he the one for her? Can she ever reveal herself to him? If she does then what will he do?

Siren's Treasure (Dark Seas Book 2)
***Book Contains Mature Content***

3 ½ out of 5 stars
Siren’s Treasure is an improvement over Siren’s Secret. I found the characters more believable and the story line much more enjoyable. We follow Shelly’s cousin Jet who feels like there is nowhere she belongs, is the black sheep, has an ex-boyfriend/partner who done her wrong, and is afraid to open up to anyone. How many of us can relate to her? I say many of us can.

This Mermaid tale is great and full of excitement, sorrow, and unexpected twist. It does have a few lagging parts, but it really doesn't take away from the story. Debbie Herbert really brought this story to life for me. Well done.

We get to join Jet at the Poseidon Games. She runs into problems and is confronted with things she doesn't want to consider. All she knows is she needs to win. She has plans. She needs answers.

Back on land Perry the ex is back and wanting to go back to the way things was, but worse he has something up his sleeve.

To top it all off the IRS man is asking too many question of Jet and she fears what could have put the focus on her.

Is the focus really on her or is this man who he says he is? Will Perry get his way? Will Jet finally get the answers she has hoped for, for so long?
